In the first three parts of history we find the main character, a colonel who lived in a small town with his wife. It is a poor, old and sick. Because we do not have money can not afford medicine need. El colonel has been waiting for twenty-six and eight months of the pension that was promised when he pulled the way of war. Tll Friday goes to the dock and wait for a boat to bring him his pension, but it always does, and he knows that he will not. El Colonel has a rooster that he values highly, his wife wants to sell it because they need the money, but not because they want to enter the rooster in a cockfight and make money. El town in which many people dying, but the person who dies in the beginning of the story was the first to die a natural death in years.
